Indigenous Health, Now and in the Future

“We recognize huge health disparities with Indigenous People, and we want to be on the cutting edge of transforming care – it’s a matter of social justice in health,” says Christopher De Bono, Vice-President, Mission, People and Ethics.

As St. Paul’s prepares to move to Station Street in 2026, great thought and planning is being put into how to further grow health care for our patients who are Indigenous throughout the hospital and in Vancouver. A larger space for the All-Nations Sacred Space – where opportunities for traditional healing for Indigenous people who are receiving care at the hospital and within the larger community, take place – is planned in the new hospital, as well as more programs.

Currently, Providence patients have access to a team of Indigenous Health Workers and Elders, with weekly Talking Circles, bedside ceremony, health system navigation and traditional healing support.
